Hi, I’m Katia Ferris, an artist, maker and designer living in San Francisco, California with my husband, two magical daughters, kitty boy Ernest and my sweet dog, Echo.
I began making dolls many years ago when my children were little and I find that there’s still so much to learn and explore. I find it truly joyful and endlessly fun and interesting.
I teach online doll-making classes via Creativebug and I’ve just completed my first book of animal doll sewing patterns to be published by Quadrille in September of 2025.
I sell my handmade dolls via Etsy however, lately, you will find my shop sadly empty as I concentrate on designing and writing. But rest assured, I’m very excited to get back to making dolls for you!

A little about me apart from doll-making:
I’m Mexican and Swedish and lived in lots of places before moving to California in 2005 - New York, Paris, Colorado, and Santa Fe, New Mexico to name a few. I love libraries, long walks, fabric-shopping, crossword puzzles, singing along with the music, dark chocolate-covered anything, and pizza. I’m currently learning Italian.
I have the sweetest dog, Echo, who is an actual dream come true, having wished for a dog my whole life (50+ years) and having never had one until now. I am loving every moment with him, and he is even more wonderful than I ever dreamed or imagined. If I’m not in the studio, you’ll probably find me across the street at the dog park with Echo and all my dog friends.
So now you know, my secret is out - I’m actually a dog person. And all this time you thought I was a cat person. Don’t tell Ernest.
